What can I do to be a visionary leader?

What can I do to be a visionary leader?
1) Visionary Leadership:    It is my hope that my technology skills will increase significantly through this TLA technology training and the additional training via Verizon.     I look forward to finding ways to integrate technology naturally in my classroom, through the meetings that I run and also the meetings that I attend.    I will enjoy having the opportunity to model practical technology skills, especially knowing that “seeing is believing”.   I look forward to conducting my meetings and classroom in ways were technology fits naturally and motivates others to do so as well.

2)   Digital Age Learning Culture:  I am very excited about learner-centered classrooms using technology.    The technology will motivate students as it allows for all the areas of interests to be explored and also allow all learners to grow at their individual levels.   Students will learn to be resourceful and successful with inquiry learning that leads to risk taking, problem solving, understanding, and growth.
3)  Excellence in Professional Practice:    I have already begun modeling collaboration among the staff currently using technology to some degree by forwarding helpful sites, setting up meetings to discuss how technology is being and can be used, and forwarding helpful information from my trainings.
4) Systemic Improvement: I have the opportunity to serve on interviewing committees.  This would be a great place to start when trying to bring in personnel with integrated and creative classroom technology skills.
5)  Digital Citizenship:   Promoting and modeling appropriate social interactions related to the use of technology is crucial.      Our district brings in a speaker to talk about how to be safe when using technology.  This is a great start; however, it will be up to each individual staff member to allow for discussions around this topic and to also have well established rules and procedures regarding appropriate technology use.     I have and will continue to give parents sites that educate them and their child on how to be safe and smart in the digital age.   I will also take the time to show, discuss, and reflect upon the age appropriate videos provided that help the children connect to and understand the importance of cyber safety.

  1. K - thanks for posting your thoughts on the five areas of the ISTE-A standards. I do wonder, in your experience, do your colleagues value using technology as a way to engage students and enhance their learning? Or, is tech seen as just one more thing that they gets in the way of teaching and learning?
